All Grown Up.....

Well sort of. Dillon has taken the next step in growing up. No, not being potty trained; I wish. He showed lots of interest in it a few months ago and now nothing, nada. When I suggest going to the potty he politely says "No thank you." One thing at a time I guess.

But he did move into his new room with a big boy bed Friday night!!! We have been getting the room ready for a few weeks (I'll post pictures of the room later) and telling him that it is his "new room". He is very excited and helped move his things into the room yesterday. We set up the bed a week or so ago and he had fun trying it out.

He tested out nap time too. He had to get cozy with Sprinkles and his ducky blanket.
But last night was the night. It actually went really well. I say actually because he has been, well....um, lets just say testing authority lately. It took longer to get him settled down; he didn't fall asleep until almost 10:00, but he stayed in bed! He did tug at my heart strings after we were done reading bedtime stories when he jumped off the bed and said he wanted to get into his crib. So he didn't fully understand that he was supposed to sleep in his new room too, but I eventually convinced him and he stayed in bed. I thought we were good for the night but he started crying a little while later and wanted to rock. We don't have a rocking chair in his new room so we compromised and I laid down with him for two songs from his bedtime CD. That did the trick.

I checked on him after he fell asleep and this is what I found. I guess the pillows are just as comfortable as the bed. Doesn't he look so little in the big bed?

I then scooted him down so he'd be a bit more comfortable for the night.

When I put him to bed I told him that he needed to wait to get out of bed in the morning until mommy or daddy came in and got him. It worked! He woke up at his usual 7:00 and called for us until one of us came in. One night down.....

Nap time today went fairly well too. He didn't get under the covers and did take a while to fall asleep but he stayed on the bed. This is what I found when I checked on him after he fell asleep. He is so cute.

I'll let you know how the coming days go.

Is He Cute or What?

Dillon really likes to play Art's "playtar", as Dillon calls the guitar. The other night he was playing and wanted to play me a song. He made up his own music and words. He was so cute! On days like today (when he was just crazy boy) I must remember that he is a sweet cute boy most of the time.

The other day he wasn't falling asleep for his nap and I went back into his room to tell him to stop talking so he could fall asleep. (Doesn't the boy understand that the yapper must be quiet in order to fall asleep?!) Anyway, he stood up and gently put his hand under my chin and said, with the biggest puppy dog eyes, "mommy don't you want to rock?" Now how can I say no to that?

Dillon is starting to play much better by himself and pretend with all his new toys. He is counting up to 12 and knows a few of the numbers in Spanish. He'll "ready" books out loud or sing along to his many toys that make noise. He is talking a lot (drives us crazy some days, I've been told that Art was very talkative when he was little) and talks very fast sometimes. So fast that we have no idea what he is saying. He is figuring out "how to play the game". You know when it is bed time and they keep asking for one more thing...or when you say "take one more bite" they take one teeny tiny bite, but hey it was a bite. He is a bit to smart for his own good!

We think he is finally understanding that he is going to have a new baby brother soon. Although for the most part Art has really confused him. The other day I was out shopping and apparently Art told Dillon that mommy and baby brother were going to be home soon. When I came through the door Dillon was still looking for baby brother, poor guy was totally confused! We also have gotten some things for the baby and Dillon is waiting each day for baby brother to come over and play. I think he is in for a big surprise. :) But he is excited for baby brother to come so that is good, lets just hope is lasts!

Happy 2009

2009 is here and we are finally able to get back into our routine. Dillon was more than ready to have all the excitement of Christmas and snow over. He got a little out of whack; his sleeping was off and he was overly excited all the time. Now that we've had a week of being back and school things have returned to normal.

After Christmas we were able to get out and about for a few days before we had another round of snow! We were able to get together with my Aunt, Uncle and cousin for some desert. We'd planed to have Christmas eve dinner together but the weather had other plans.

Finally a family picture in front of the tree.
We finally got around to decorating Christmas cookies. Each year (since I was little) I've decorated sugar cookies for mom and dad's neighbors, the Robinsons. I've kept the tradition going and this year Dillon helped me decorate (and taste) a few. He had fun, although not sure what he enjoyed more decorating or eating?! But who can blame him?

We also got together with Art's family to celebrate Hanukkah. Dillon wasn't feeling very well that day. He'd had a mild temperature all day and was just not himself. He did love his new Handy Manny truck and played with that all evening until he was ready to leave. And I do mean ready, he kept asking to leave. Pour guy was exhausted and fell asleep as soon as the car started moving. He had a mild temp most of the next day but after some good sleep and a few ggod meals the temp went back to normal and so did he.

He loves his tools!
We had snow on New Years! It didn't last too long but we woke up to a dusting. It then snowed again on Sunday. It started snowing about 3:30 and snowed like crazy well past midnight. It was amazing how fast the snow started to stick and pile up. We went out to an early dinner about 4:30/5:00 and in the amount of time we ate dinner (and you know we don't have very long dinners anymore!) there was another inch on the ground. When I had last measured at 10:30 p.m. we had over 4 inches on the ground. It didn't last too long and by Tuesday all the snow was completely gone. Then we had a few days of crazy wind and rain which flooded most of Western Washington. So far it has been a winter to remember
